Christie to give funding for polluted Pond.

Wreck Pond's problems were hard and not cheap— that residents of the five towns surrounding that  body of water in Monmouth County were forced to endure repeated floods  for more than a decade.

With funding scarce for the major repairs that needed to be done, not much could be done to alleviate the problems of this pond, which is more akin to a lake.

But some of federal Hurricane Sandy relief money dedicated for flood mitigation and for wildlife protection is going toward fixing the engineering shortcomings of the pond that should reduce flooding while improving the environment, Gov. Chris Christie announced on Thursday.
